He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is
steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His
heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on
his foes. Psalm 112:7-8
You who fear him, trust in the Lord-he is their help
and shield. Psalm 115:11
I only watch the news
for local weather. I don’t care about politics and the daily demise of man
never changes. It should be called the Bad News. Why can’t we report more good news than bad? Our society thrives on selling fear. The medical industry sells fear in a pill. Insurance
companies market fear in a plan. I was
recently pressed to purchase Career Insurance Plan. When questioned why I might need these money
pits of uncertainty I hear the same two word response.
“What if...?”
I am not opposed to
insurance, heck a great friend is an agent, but I am opposed to selling fear
based on hypothetical scenarios. What if
that water hasn’t been treated? What if
you are alone and too far in the woods to get help? What if you have no cell phone to make a
call? What if you die without life
insurance? What if lightening hits you?
What if? What if?
What if?
Life is tough enough
without the fear of things that have not happened.
Instead of a life of
fear of the unknown “what if’ a man should be like the man of Psalm 112:7, “He will have no fear of bad news.”
Why does the man of God not fear bad news? Simply because, “his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.”
Living in fear is a
choice. Did you hear that? The word of God is filled with too many
promises for us to not lean completely upon our Savior. When a man lives in fear all he receives from
fear is more fear. Fear is selfish. It only takes. When a man chooses to
neglect the “what ifs” he embraces victory.
The man who trusts God with his “what ifs” of life “will look in triumph on his foes.”
Fear is a choice and
victory does not happen by chance. It too is a choice that a man can experience
when he commits to look beyond himself.
