However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if
only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given
me-the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace. Acts 20:24
I once spoke to a
“man” who hunted and fished three days a week until it ultimately cost him his
family but he excused it away with, “I need ME time!” He left a godly woman and
sons for his “ME time”. His understanding of himself and what the Bible says
about the marriage covenant were wrong. What do you think he taught his sons
through his abandonment?
This man was a
confused boy.
In Act’s 20:24 Paul affirms the call to, “testify of the Gospel of God’s grace (to
the Gentiles).” He knew that finishing meant more than ending. Finishing is more than the final buzzer. It is more than crossing the finish line-much
more.
Finishing is to “complete the task,” to finish
strong.
Often times a man
must put “ME time” aside in order to embrace his responsibility to lead those
who depend on him. Simply, a man knows that “WE” is more important that “ME”.
The American man’s
concept of finishing is often quite contrary to the Word of God.
Finishing demands an
accurate understanding of the Scriptures.
Paul understood this, “I consider
my life (me time) worth nothing to me.”
What is your life
worth to you? Unless it is worth nothing
you may be tempted to surrender God’s call to obey for “ME time”.
