You Don’t Have to Come Back

Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!” ~Isaiah 6:8

Disney’s 2016 film, The Finest Hours, showcases the incredible bravery of four men of the Coast Guards headed by Boatswains Mate 1st Class Bernie Webber, who took the small motor lifeboat CG36500 out to the Pendleton, a ripped-in-half tanker. They successfully rescued all but one of the ship’s crewmembers who were adrift in the stern (back) section of the vessel.
The four men probably thought they were on a suicide mission. The sea was being whipped up with hurricane-force winds. With their navigation systems smashed by raging seas, they were still able to locate the wreck and pick up 32 crewmen and cram them into their small lifeboat. Webber and his crew then fought their way back into Chatham Harbor to an astonished group of onlookers who had given them up for dead.
Stories of heroism like this one are part of the long history of the U.S. Coast Guard whose unofficial motto is, “You have to go out—you don’t have to come back.”  A man (contrary to a male) is the tip of the spear. He is the one out in front, gladly willing to sacrifice his life for those he loves.
The antithesis to this is our Media. It loves to paint a deceptive picture of cowardly men. The Media is a liar. Don’t trust it. Just like fake news, the Media produces fake reality, entertainment, not the truth. It’s like World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It’s fun to watch but it’s just a show.
Take the 1997 film Titanic for example and its recounting of the tragic 1912 maiden voyage of the Titanic. In the movie, the lead actress is engaged to a cowardly millionaire who ultimately forces his way through women and children to steal a place on a lifeboat, a place that cost a woman or child his or her life. But what they refuse to reveal is the truth. Of the 2,224 people aboard the Titanic, only 710 survived. Of the 1,514 people who died, unlike what the media liars would have you believe, 1,347 of those were men!
Only 103 women perished in the tragedy.
Why?

Because men, real men, are willing to go down with the ship if it saves the lives of others. Men sacrifice their lives for the high call of manhood. Males jump into the lifeboat to save themselves. Men, you have to go out and rescue those you love. You don’t have to come back.
