You—in High Definition

“Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”
~1 Peter 1:13-16

As a child, I remember gently moving the rabbit ears on the television to make the one channel on the snowy screen a little clearer.  I recall the day our wood-boxed television got cable, overwhelmed by thirteen channel choices! I remember when “turning the channel” meant actually turning a knob just like rolling up a car window actually meant rolling the handle in a circular motion!
Today basic cable plans have over 100 channel choices on high definition flat screens. High definition brings clarity unlike anything before its time. Did you know you are created to live in high definition?
God calls us to be light in a dark world. He calls us in to places we’ve never ventured, calls us out of every sin that hinders, calls us, and calls us up to the best version of ourselves in Christ.
This is Christian holiness.
Holiness is when a follower of Jesus gets serious about God and surrenders his life to God’s ways. And God responds by changing that man with the mysterious power of His Spirit. The man who has been radically changed sees life in high definition and settles for nothing less. He is reckless about his faith. He cares more about inviting people to know Jesus than inviting them to church. He’s always ready to minister life change though Christ instead of hoping the upcoming Sunday the service will be good, and his buddy will respond to the topical message, cool lighting, and stylistic band.
The holy man who is deeply committed to serving God is relevant because he is real and ready at all times. He lives in high definition. He will be satisfied with nothing less than the best version of himself because of who he is in Christ.
“Be holy, because I am holy.”
Jesus is the best version of God. He calls you to be the best version of you as a new creation in Him. Am I the best version of me physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually? Am I the best version of a husband for my wife? Am I the best version of a father to my Children? Am I the best witness for Christ to a dying world?
The list goes on and on.
Live a life of holiness. Live in high definition. Live as the best version of you. Change your world.
