With all of my heart I know the war is won, but life is still marked with battle after battle over spiritual health, loved ones, and the lost souls within one’s circle of influence. Read the last page (Revelation 22:1-21) and you will know that the war has been won by Christ, but the war rages in the heavens and on earth violent men must take it by force (Matthew 11:12). Men, you are in a war over souls.

6 Now come and put a curse on these people, because they are too powerful for me. Perhaps then I will be able to defeat them and drive them out of the country. For I know that those you bless are blessed, and those you curse are cursed." 7 The elders of Moab and Midian left, taking with them the fee for divination. When they came to Balaam, they told him what Balak had said. 8 "Spend the night here," Balaam said to them, "and I will bring you back the answer the LORD gives me." So the Moabite princes stayed with him. 9 God came to Balaam and asked, "Who are these men with you?" 10 Balaam said to God, "Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent me this message: 11 `A people that has come out of Egypt covers the face of the land. Now come and put a curse on them for me. Perhaps then I will be able to fight them and drive them away.' " Numbers 22:6-11
9 “When Balak son of Zippor, the king of Moab, prepared to fight against Israel, he sent for Balaam son of Beor to put a curse on you. 10 But I would not listen to Balaam, so he blessed you again and again, and I delivered you out of his hand. 11 Then you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. The citizens of Jericho fought against you, as did also the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites and Jebusites, but I gave them into your hands.” Joshua 24:9-11
In the very early 1990’s my pastor warned me of a satanic cult that had been praying curses upon my ministry with Youth for Christ/Campus Life. He admonished me to fight back in prayer. I did. In fact over the years God has raised up over 100 prayer partners to pray God’s favor and blessings over the battles we fight for him in the war of souls; a war that the enemy knows he has ultimately lost, but will continue fight the battle for individual souls. We must fight back Satan’s curse over this world with the blessings of God, salvation, and revelation.
Life is a battlefield and we are in the war for this dark world is our battle ground (2 Corinthians 10:3-4).
In his book “The Purpose Driven Life”, Rick Warren writes, “I never curse what God is blessing.” Balak son of Zipper, the king of Moab knew he could not beat Israel so he sent for Balaam to curse them. When Balaam realized they were a blessed people he refused to curse the Israelites. This reminds me of the old saying, “If you can’t beat ’em, join them!” You cannot curse what God is blessing and you cannot defeat that which God has proclaimed victorious.
Men who have chosen to follow Jesus have won the war over their soul and have received the blessing of salvation (Ephesians 2:8-10).
Life is scarred by spiritual warfare, but men must fight on. A man will fight because he has the blessing of God covering him. The blessing of God is his shield, his fortress, and is better than a battle line of 1000 men watching his back.
Yesterday a young man walked into my office hearing voices that were constantly telling him to “sell his soul”. Hour after hour, day after day, this voice in his head coerces him to “sell his soul”. I could literally feel the oppression surrounding him that was so great that I had to fight to stay awake. I could sense an evil oppression and the curse of fear began to enter my soul, but in that moment the Spirit’s voice spoke through me, “You have admitted that you do not believe in Jesus and so you have already ‘sold your soul’ to the enemy and are going to hell without Jesus. You need to be sold out for God and let him fight for you.”
He rejected my counsel, got up, and left my office.
Looking back I think it was a big game to him. I think my words stunned him. I think he was expecting the gentle touch counselor but instead got the swift kick and was called out. He had played this trick on his mom and others but it is his soul that is in question not me. The shield of cursing and deception will be lifted when this young man receives Jesus.
