Fear the
Lord your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. Deuteronomy 6:13
You shall
not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone
guiltless who misuses his name.
Deuteronomy 5:11
My hand
covered the knife clipped to my pocket as he showed me his collection. Most of his knives had some flaw, which allowed
him to purchase them at less than retail.
Maybe there was a microscopic dent in a blade, scratch on the wood, or
rested slightly off center in a closed position. Whatever the case, the company he worked for
would not put their name on anything less than a perfect knife. In his hand he held a thousand dollars knife
that the fifty dollar knife in my pocket I got on sale for eighteen bucks would
never compare to!
The wise
man is cautious about what he puts his name on.
When he
attaches his name to God’s name he must take extra caution.
Satan
wants men to make the name of Jesus common vernacular. Have you ever wondered
at why men will often take the name of God or Jesus in vain? When was the last
time you heard someone say, “Buddha dam it!”?
Or,
“Joseph Smith! I never knew that!”
“Confucius!
I was ticked off!”
You don’t
hear it because Satan already has them. What he does not have is Jesus and his
followers. Listen to what we know about the name of Jesus.
“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every
knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and
every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the
Father” (Philippians 2:9-11).
Be very
careful with how you represent the Name. The name of Jesus is the furthest thing
from common. It is most definitely not a cuss word. Do not make it so, and
never tolerate another man who does.
