“The
Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.” Exodus
33:11
Prior to my texting
days I went to my cell phone provider for assistance. During conversation I noticed my “rep” refused
to look me in the eyes and when he did manage to speak his words came out
timidly and broken up.
As he stared at my
statement he said in the most amazed way, “Sir, you don’t have texting? How do you communicate?”
I waited until he
hesitantly looked me eye to eye and said, “When I communicate I actually use words!”
Much has changed
since that day. I now text using a
“Smart phone” that is constantly connected to my Apps, Face Book, and Twitter accounts!
Men, we live in a day and age that makes it so easy to be a coward. It is
standard procedure for a male to hide behind his computer, television or cell
phone screen. I love what Exodus 33:11
says to men seeking to understand manhood, “The
Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.”
In our modern age of
technology a man must establish some rules of communicating with others,
especially in conflict. Technology has become god to many once good men. DO not
become one of them. First, remember that technology is available for us to use
and not the other way around. Be
careful not to become technology’s tool, instead use it to your advantage. Err on the side of being a late adopter to
technology.
Second, never
communicate artificially when emotion is involved. Never send an angry email. Never ask a girl out on anything
romantic. Never send a text that may be
misconstrued. Never call someone to
discuss a sensitive issue. Never bring emotions into artificial communication
unless clearly pleasant.
When my son asked out
his first girlfriend he asked her father face to face like a man. I was so proud of him. Men talk to men “face to face,” not space to
space. In this day and age where communicating like a boy is becoming more and
more acceptable all that can be said is don’t do it.
Be a man. Talk to men face to face.
