And so Moses finished the work. Genesis 40:33
Last night we watched
the Giants defeat the Patriots in Superbowl Forty-Six again! The Patriots can’t
seem to finish with facing the Giants. The Superbowl reminded me of another group
that had to face the giants, Moses and Israel.
God prepared Moses to
lead the Israelites by training him in Pharaoh's court until forty. Later, Moses
fled into the wilderness and continued during the next forty years of training
as a shepherd. Subsequent to the burning
bush experience God sent Moses back to Egypt to set the Hebrews free, leading
them to the Promised Land.
Forty years later however,
at age 120, Moses died having seen the Promised Land but never entering
it. His life seems tragic. God showed
him the Land of Promise (Deuteronomy
31:4) before dying one verse later.
Moses never entered the
Promised Land, but Moses finished the work.
“Moses finished the work” (Exodus 40:33).
Interestingly, once
Moses completed the Tabernacle the glory of the Lord showed up in such a mighty
way that, “Moses was not able to enter.”
Finishing may not look the way you expect. The finished work may be
unrecognizable but God knows the work he has for you.
Moses finished and
saw the glory of God for his efforts. How
many men quit before they see the glory?
The road to glory is futile until a man finishes the work. Work at your marriage
until you see God’s glory in your wife. Work on your children until you see the
glory of God in them. Work on your faith
until God’s glory works through you.
Finish the work. Walk
the glory road.
