For even when we were with you, we
gave you this rule; “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.” 2 Thessalonians 3:10
I laughed the other
day when I read a bumper sticker that said, “Pull up your pants and get a job!”
In other words, get off your rear and get into gear!
Part of the problem
with men in America is that our society has taken such good care of us that we
have been trained that someone will always be there to fix what we have
broken.
I spent quite a while
late last night speaking to a woman who is housing two high school boys for
free. Both are seniors, have no job or
driver’s license, one is expecting a child, and both are barely passing in
school.
My advice: kick them out of the house.
Our son James has a
job as a lifeguard to pay for his gas, insurance, and cell phone bill. Nearly
all of his peers have no job, drive newer cars than me, have high end cell
phones, and wear all the latest fashions.
“Who pays for all of
this?”
What are we teaching
our sons? You deserve it; therefore, I
will pay for it!
We must teach our
boys responsibility. We must teach them to work. One day they will have to work to support a
family and be a contributing member of the Church and society. It might as well
begin when they are under your banner of leadership. What are you teaching your
loved ones about hard work? The
government will take care of you? If you
are lazy or unemployed get up, grow up and get a job!
Some men are physically
incapable of work due to an injury of chronic illness but the rest of us are
good to go. Be an example of hard work to your sons not the poster child
laziness, sloth and gluttony. Paul wrote to the men of Thessalonica, “The one who is
unwilling to work shall not eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10).
Men who will not work
are nothing more than boys.
