A Man: Leading from the Back

A man of understanding keeps a straight course Proverbs 15:21b

The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.  Proverbs 16:9

The Great Hunt for God exists to “restore a man’s lost identity.”  Our mission is to motivate men to learn about manhood, mobilize men to lead, and multiply men to legacy through leading other men.

We have spent much time in discussing and creating a brand that represents who we are.  For a short season we used a ripple to represent the effect men have in the world around them but felt it was too soft and over used. Ultimately, we landed on the idea of an arrow fletching. The fletching is the sum of the three feathers, or flights, attached on the back of an arrow used to direct an arrow in flight. It is masculine and simple. After surfing the internet I was shocked to see how ignored the fletching is compared to the arrowhead.  The broad head gets most of the attention being cooler, posses a razor’s edge, and is the first point of contact.  The broad head is popular, visible and draws first blood, leaving the fletching behind.

The fletching get no respect.

But the fletching is the catalyst for the arrow’s direction.  It offers stability against the elements.  It stabilizes the flight of the arrow and without it the arrow veers off course.  The fletching, quite frankly, leads from the back.

A man leads from the back.  A man, like the fletching, has a perfect view of those closest to him from the back.  He serves his family from the back.  He supervises them form the back where he can encourage, push and admonish.

“A man of understanding keeps a straight course.” (Proverbs 15:21b)

Isaiah 30:21 says, “Whether you turn to the right or the left you will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way.  Walk in it.”

Where is God? He is behind you, leading you from the back.
