A Man: Master of His Domain

They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity-for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.  2 Peter 2:19

I recently posted, “A smart phone that is not protected against pornography belongs to a dumb man.”  As technology advances men must begin to look at things differently.  Because of my pre-Jesus history I see technology as a potential to view pornography.  The things many men, including myself, celebrated prior to knowing Jesus are now the things we are ashamed of and struggle to protect against.

What was once celebrated is now a point of contention.

Many Christian men are in bondage to the sins of their youth (2 Timothy 2:22).   A man’s present bondage is often because of the sins of his past.

“A man is slave to whatever has mastered him” (2 Peter 2:19).

What has control over you?  Is it food, chew, slothfulness, beer, cussing, work, or a hobby that detours form your responsibilities?

Paul wrote, “I will be mastered by nothing” (1 Corinthians 6:12).

I read of a man who would spy on his wife logging into the family computer so he could enter logins until he figured out the password unlocking his secret world of pornography!

He was not a master of his domain.

A man is mastered by the things that master him. A man fights the sin he once celebrated. A man exposes his darkness to the light empowering other men to rally around his cause.

What has mastery over you?  A better question is, “What secret life are you hiding from those closest to you?”

Boys guard their secrets.  Boys are mastered by them.

Men, however, expose their sin.  Men are mastered only by Jesus alone.
