Even as he was speaking, Jonathan son of Abiathar the
priest arrived. Adonijah said, “Come
in. A worthy man like you must be
bringing good news.” 1Kings 1:42
When I was a senior
in high school I attended our Senior Awards Night. On this night seniors are awarded according
to their achievements. Each of the 200 students would receive some creative
title on this night.
Since two of my best
friends came up with the award titles I was excited to hear what title I was
given. As they ended the Q’s I knew I
was next. Then I heard it words that
would haunt me, “Jim Ramos, the most likely to be on the cover of Sports
Illustrated!”
I stood up, pumped up
my chest and proudly began to walk to the platform, but as I reached it my
“friends” smiled and in unison said, “...... and tell you about it!” As
embarrassing as that moment was it taught me a life lesson; every man has a
message he is sending to the world.
What is yours?
From scripture it
appears that men were sent as messengers based on their quality. A good man meant good news, but a bad man
meant bad news. This way a leader could
identify the news before the news arrived.
Adonijah was shocked
when Jonathan son of Abiathar brought bad news, “Come in, for you are a valiant
man and bring good news” (1 Kings 1:42).
The word gospel means
nothing more than “good news.” The
message of Jesus is a message of salvation and life. It is very good news.
When men see you
coming what do they anticipate your message will be?
