10 Then even the bravest

Israel knows that your father is a fighter and that those with him are brave. 2
Samuel 17:10
I’ve been
sitting in the same field over a dozen times and have only seen a handful of
deer. Trying to fill my Willamette “Hair” tag is usually simple but this year
something went wrong, and I discovered the imprints of my problem on the frozen
ground in front of me. The recent flooding followed by a hard freeze left a
petrified imprint of the largest cougar track I have ever seen. The track was
as large as half of my boot print!
Besides
man, the lion is at the top of the food chain. Even with dominion over all
creatures the lion continues to instill fear in the hearts of outdoorsmen. I
urinate around my camp when backpacking to keep lions away. I listen to noises
form behind when glassing for animals. I’m constantly aware of what this predator
can do in a chance encounter.
There are
certain men, “whose heart is like the heart of a lion.” Does this intrigue
you?
The mystery surrounding King Richard “The Lion Hearted” in Robin Hood
always intrigued me. What does a lion hearted man look like? What would it take
to have a lion heart?
The lion
hearted face their fears. The lion hearted are the “bravest soldiers”. The lion
hearted find a way to stand firm in the midst of all difficulties.
When other
men see your heart what comes to mind. Jesus nicknamed the three men in his inner
circle, “The Rock” and “Sons of Thunder”. What do you think he saw in them?
What do
others see in you?
