A wise man has great power, and a man of knowledge
increases strength. Proverbs 24:5
As a young man I
heard a preacher define power as, “The supernatural ability to get things done.” I agree. There is a supernatural ability to
accomplish the miraculous-the forming of a human life, the salvation of a soul
and the physical healing of the sick to name a few.
But, in the jungle
called the American work week, a man often needs a miracle to accomplish their
daily work tasks. There have been many
times that I walk into the office with my game face on, not knowing whether or
not that message will get done, that study will get done, or that volunteer
will be found.
There have been just
as many days I strutted out of my office at day’s end amazed at what God
did. Most days end with the blessing of
knowing that another task list was miraculously completed thanks to the power
of God in me (Ephesians 3:20-21).
Power is the
supernatural ability to get things done.
A man realizes he
needs the salvation that comes only through Jesus Christ. A good man can protect his integrity, fight
apathy, lead courageously and finish strong. However he is incomplete apart
from a total devotion to the God who created him.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”
Where there’s no godly wisdom, there is no power. Power is a byproduct
of a life permeated by Jesus. The “knowledge” that comes from receiving Jesus
as savior is a burst of power needed in daily life. If a man wants true power
in his life he must relinquish his power to the power of the Holy Spirit
through Jesus Christ.
