The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond
cure. Who can understand it? I the Lord search the heart and examine the
mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds
deserve. Jeremiah 17:9-10
I listened to
financial adviser Dave Ramsey talk about money management. He grimaced telling his audience that getting
your money in order is the most difficult thing ever. Easing his muscles he moved across the stage
poised with the knowledge of what was coming next, “Managing your money is the
easiest thing in the world!”
He explained that if
it were not for the man he shaves with he would be skinny and rich! According to James 1:13 a man’s biggest enemy is the man in the mirror.
A man’s heart, “Is more deceitful than all else and is
desperately sick” (verse 9).
“Who can understand
it?”
A boy surrenders his
heart to the man in the mirror. A man
struggles against the man staring back at him. The greatest challenge for the man in the
mirror is his struggle against sin. It
is the battle to align the inside with the outside, private life with the
public.
Matthew 12:34
states, “out of the overflow of the
heart the mouth speaks.” Words are close
to a man’s actions, “The good man out of
the good treasure brings forth good” (35).
A man reaps with his life what he sows (Galatians 6:7-8).
Actions speak loudly
but not loud enough. I know a lot of
politicians in churches who say the right things but do something much
different. God searches the hearts of men to confirm that his actions align
with his heart that he may be rewarded according to his deeds.
Does your life align
with your heart?
