A Man: The Cause

But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female.  For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife.  Mark 10:6-7 KJV (Genesis 2:24-25)

After a message I gave on the fall of man in the garden a young man texted, “So God made Eve for Adam because God said, ‘it is not good for man to be lonely,’ right?” Nowhere does it say that Adam was lonely, but that, “It is not good for man to be alone.”

Alone is not the same as lonely.

It is not good for a man to be alone because he needs a “helpmate” in a woman.  A good woman makes a good man great. A man is incomplete without a woman.

I believe the adage, “behind every good man is a good woman.”
It is not good for a man to be alone.

In our passage for today God says something we can’t ignore, “For this CAUSE a man shall leave his father and mother.”  Did you catch that?

Marriage is more than not being alone.  Marriage is deeper than overcoming loneliness.  Marriage is more than meeting a man’s need for sex. Marriage is God’s great cause to be a living parable between Christ and the Church (Ephesians 5), and of turning a boy into a man.

After twenty years of marriage Shanna has made me a better man.  She pushes me more than I want to be pushed.  She teaches me how to love better than I have loved.  She sees what I do not see. She believes in me when I do not believe in myself. She challenges me to be better than I was.

If the man is the head of the household, the woman is the neck!

God fulfilled his great CAUSE of turning boys into men with women.
